Policy on Return of Unearned TA Funds
Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded.
When a student withdraws, the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of TA funds originally awarded.
To comply with the new Department of Defense Policy, Eastern Kentucky University will return any unearned TA funds on a prorated basis through the 60% portion of the period for which the funds were provided (see Full Schedule for Return of Unearned TA Funds). TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending. These funds are returned to the military service branch in which the student serves.
Students who are called for mobilization or whose spouse/legal guardian or sponsored dependent is called to active duty should refer to University Policy 4.3.14P, Military Activation and Course Completion, which provides several options, including withdrawal from the course(s) and/or University or taking an incomplete and completing the course(s) following completion of mobilization.
Eligible requests for military withdrawal triggers a 100% refund in all tuition and course fees which will be returned to the student's military service branch and result in no debt to the student.
